Manila, Philippines, February 15, 2023: The Philippines will hold swimming trials for the 32nd South East Asian (SEA) Games at the new aquatics centre in New Clark City this week.
New Clark City is located at Capas, Tarlac province, around 100km north of Manila. The sports complex includes the aquatics centre, main stadium and sports village. It was the main sports hub of the 30th SEA Games in 2019 and will now be the venue for trials for the 32nd SEA Games to be held in Cambodia this May.
The open trials will run from Thursday, February 16 to Sunday, February 19.
“This open tryout swim competition will give athletes an opportunity to be part of the Philippine aquatics team and compete at the Cambodia 32nd Southeast Asian Games in May 2023,” New Clark City announced.
“The competition pools in the Aquatics Center are FINA-approved making it a world-class and Olympics-certified facility,” they added, referring to the International Federation now known as World Aquatics.
“Some 19 SEA Games records in swimming were set here during the 30th SEA Games hosted by the Philippines in 2019.”
Kazumi Eguchi, a veteran aquatics technical official from Japan, will oversee the conduct of the four-day trials.
Eguchi’s resume includes her officiating responsibilities at the London 2012 Olympics, Rome 2009 and Barcelona 2013 world championships, Jakarta 2018 Asian Games and numerous Asian and Asian age group championships. She also played a key role in the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2021.
The swimming competition at the 32nd SEA Games will take place at the new Morodok Techo national sports complex on the outskirts of Phnom Penh.
New Clark City is the Bases Conversion and Development Authority’s (BCDA) answer to the overstressed confines of Metro Manila.
