Asian Games equestrian host city to stage major international event

Hangzhou, China, February 15, 2023: Organisers of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China this September will be able to assess the hosting of one of the most complex events at a multi-sport games – equestrian.

The 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022 reports that a press conference was held in Shanghai on Tuesday, February 14 to mark the signing ceremony for the first China Hangzhou (Tonglu) International Equestrian Open – part of the Exciting Hangzhou campaign.

Representatives of the People’s Government of Tonglu County and COSCO Shipping Exhibition were among the attendees of the press conference, during which it was revealed that the Tonglu Equestrian Open will take place from May 13-18.

Some 50 horses will be shipped from Europe to the equine disease-free zone (EDFZ) in Tonglu to take part in the event, which will offer a full-scale test of logistics as well as competition matters.

Hangzhou has already held a test event for the 19th Asian Games – the Invitational Equestrian Eventing Tournament – and this latest addition to the calendar will give organisers further opportunities to perfect their operations and management.

The equestrian competition of the Hangzhou Asian Games will take place at Tonglu Equestrian Centre from September 26 to October 6. There will be six gold medals on offer in eventing, dressage and showjumping.
