Hong Kong, China NOC announces nominees for sports stars awards 2022

Hong Kong, China, February 13, 2023: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) has announced the nominations for the Cathay 2022 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards.

The announcement was made on Saturday, February 11 at MCP CENTRAL and called on the public to cast their votes online for their favourite athletes from now until March 12.

Following the month-long nomination period, SF&OC received a total of 96 nominations from 46 National Sports Associations. These nominations will be voted by judging panels, the media and the public.

The officiating guests for the press conference on Saturday were Mr. Timothy Fok, President of SF&OC; Mrs. Gunilla Lindberg, Secretary General of the Association of National Olympic Committees; Mr. Edward Bell, General Manager, Brand, Insights & Marketing Communications of Cathay; Dr. Karl C. Kwok, Vice President of SF&OC/Chair of the Awards Organising Committee; and Mr. Benjamin Hung Tak-chuen, Assistant Director (Leisure Services) of Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Over 100 nominated athletes and teams attended the press conference to support the event and encourage the public to vote.

President Fok said: "The number of nominations this year has increased by nearly half compared to last year, with a total of over 340 nominees. Many of them are new faces, which is really encouraging.

“As the craze for sports continues in the community, I hope more members of the public will participate in the HKSSA 2022 by casting their votes actively because every single vote is an affirmation of the contribution of Hong Kong athletes.

“Meanwhile, with the relaunch of a number of mega sports events in the territory and the return of world-class athletes, Hong Kong is re-establishing her good reputation as an 'events capital'.

“SF&OC will render full support and join hands with various sectors to promote sports development in Hong Kong."

The four categories for this year's awards are male and female athlete of the year, team event and team only sport.

The results will be announced at the awards presentation ceremony to be held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on April 18, 2023.
