Tashkent, Uzbekistan, February 12, 2023: Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports and the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan heard presentations last week from five sports which will participate at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
The hockey and tennis federations were the first to discuss their plans over the next two years, including their strategy at the 19th Asian Games in September 2023 and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This was followed the next day by presentations from archery, football and triathlon.
Deputy Minister Shakhrullo Makhmudov, NOC Secretary General Oybek Kasimov as well as officials of the various federations attended the meetings where the blueprints of preparing the country’s teams for the Hangzhou Asian Games and the Paris Olympics were laid out.
Sports officials taking part in the meetings included the Secretary General of the Uzbekistan Tennis Federation, Iroda Tulyaganova, the Secretary General of the Triathlon Federation, Yelena Kun, the first Deputy Chairman of the Archery Federation, Otabek Imamov, and the General Secretary of the Uzbekistan Football Association, Avaz Maksumov.
Maksumov noted that, in team sports, football had the highest chance of qualifying for the Olympics. Uzbekistan will field both the men’s and women’s national teams at the Hangzhou Asian Games.
