Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, February 2, 2023: The Olympic Council of Malaysia has congratulated Deputy President Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin on his election as FIFA Council member for the term 2023-2027 during the 33rd Asian Football Confederation Congress in Manama, Bahrain on Wednesday, February 1.
Datuk Hamidin, who is the President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), became the fourth football official from Malaysia to be given the mandate to be part of world football’s supreme body since 1960.
Datuk Hamidin, a banker by profession, began his career in football as the executive secretary of the Football Association of Selangor in August 1995 before being made General Secretary of FAS from 1998 to 2013. He was appointed General Secretary of FAM for five years from 2013 to 2018 and was installed as President on July 14, 2018.
The President of OCM, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, viewed Datuk Hamidin’s election as a natural progression for a leader/administrator who has been in the football industry for almost three decades.
“Datuk Hamidin’s election signalled the world’s recognition for Asia and Malaysia in particular,” said the OCM President.
“Having devoted almost 30 years of his life to serving the sport, he understands the challenges in running football at regional and continental levels. The OCM is extremely proud to have its Deputy President installed as a member of one of the biggest governing bodies in the world.”
