Thimphu, Bhutan, January 30, 2023: HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, graced the ground-breaking ceremony of the new Taekwondo Federation Iconic Centre last week in the capital Thimphu.

The construction of the taekwondo centre is part of the Himalayan kingdom’s ‘Youth Development Project through Sports, Health and Value Education’.

The cost of building the taekwondo centre is estimated at US$6.8 million and will be funded by the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

Speaking at the ceremony, Young Ah Doh, KOICA Country Director, said: “Taekwondo is a very important sport because, through it, we can physically and mentally support youth.

"KOICA decided to support this project, and we hope that through this project we will not only be able to support the construction of the building but also support youth development programmes.

“Through this project we will upgrade and improve youth development in Bhutan,” the KOICA country director added.
