Phnom Penh, Cambodia, January 26, 2023: The pride of Cambodian sport – the Morodok Techo National Stadium – was the highlight of a venue tour on the second day of the SEA Games Chef de Mission meeting in Phnom Penh on Thursday.

Following the official meeting and 100-day countdown ceremony on Wednesday, the delegates from 11 National Olympic Committees toured some of the Phnom Penh venues preparing to host the 32nd South East Asian Games from May 5-17.

The hub of the SEA Games will be the Morodok Techo National Stadium, which took four years to build from 2017 to 2021 and will seat 60,000 spectators. It will be used for the opening and closing ceremonies and also for the athletics competition.

The Morodok Techo sports complex includes the 3,000-capacity aquatic centre, with a competition pool, diving pool and six-lane warm-up pool, and indoor halls for badminton, table tennis, volleyball and basketball.

The NOC Service Centre and Games Operation Centre building is located next to the main stadium, while the site of the International Broadcast Centre is in the surrounds.

The tour began with a visit to the NOC Cambodia HQ, which accommodates the SEA Games host broadcaster CSTV (Cambodia Sports Television), followed by the National Olympic Sports Complex which will stage 11 sports, including football in the main stadium.

The morning ended with a trip to the Sport Village next to the Morodok Techo National Stadium. The village will provide 6,100 beds in a variety of buildings, including condo towers and town houses. Construction work was delayed by the pandemic and also a prolonged rainy season, but with 3,000 workers on site the developers are confident all rooms will be handed over to the organising committee by the end of March.

Delegates were due to visit one of the four co-host provinces, Sihanoukville, in the afternoon to conclude the two days of activities.
