Phnom Penh, Cambodia, January 25, 2023: The Secretary General of the Cambodia SEA Games Organising Committee (CAMSOC), Vath Chamroeun, welcomed delegates from 11 countries to the first Chef de Mission meeting at the Garden City Hotel in Phnom Penh on Wednesday morning.
Vath, who is also Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, opened the meeting with a plea for support and cooperation from all the NOCs in the region to make the 32nd South East Asian Games a big success.
“Our meeting today coincides with the 100-day countdown to the opening ceremony on May 5, so it is very significant for everyone to be here and join this celebration,” he said.
“This will be the first time for Cambodia to host the SEA Games since its inception in 1959 and we are asking for our brothers and sisters in the region to share your experiences and give us your advice in order to better organise the Games.”
The 32nd SEA Games will run from May 5-17 in the capital Phnom Penh and four other provinces: Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, Kep and Kampot. This will be followed by the 12th ASEAN Para Games from June 3-9.
“We are very busy with these two major sports games and all our working committees are here in this meeting to make their presentations,” Vath added.
“Feel free to advise and to ask questions so that we can comply with all your needs and requirements and create a safe environment for the athletes.”
Here are some key points from the meeting:
Accommodation: A Sport Village, next to the new Morodok Techo sports complex, will provide 6,100 beds for athletes, team officials and chef de missions, while the Sokha Phnom Penh Hotel and Garden City Hotel will be the two main HQ hotels in the capital.
Transportation: Three international airports, at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville, will welcome the athletes and officials, while a total of 693 vehicles in various categories will serve the SEA Games.
Medical and anti-doping: The medical staff will number 3,000 doctors and nurses, with 100 ambulances on duty, 100 physiotherapists, nine designated hospitals in Phnom Penh and one each in the four co-hosting provinces. Training will be provided in anti-Covid-19 measures based on the OCA guidelines.
Accreditation: Entry by Number closes January 27. Entry by Name, February 7 to March 5. Pre-valid accreditation and identification cards will be distributed from April 24-28.
Torch Run: The torch will be lit on March 21 at Angkor Wat temple complex by the King of Cambodia, His Majesty Norodom Sihamoni.
Events: Total 581, men’s events 304, women’s events 229, mixed 58. Plus two demonstration sports.
Volunteers: 7,000
*The CDM meeting will be followed by the 100-day countdown ceremony at the Morodok Techo National Stadium on Wednesday evening, and a venue tour of Phnom Penh and Sihanoukville on Thursday.
