Monaco, January 22, 2023: UIPM World Pentathlon has released competition dates for 2023 as Modern Pentathlon begins another Olympic qualification journey.
While the sport is undergoing a long-term transition with the adoption of Obstacle, most senior athletes remain focused on the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, which will be the last to include Riding.
The list of qualifying events for Paris 2024 includes the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China this September, when five quota places will be available for the Olympic Games.
The official Road to Paris begins with the season-opening UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup in Cairo, Egypt from March 7-12. The circuit continues through Ankara (TUR), Budapest (HUN) and Sofia (BUL), with the season’s best 72 performers qualifying for the UIPM 2023 Pentathlon World Cup Final in Ankara.
UIPM (International Modern Pentathlon Union) reports that there will be additional opportunities in 2023 for athletes to earn points towards the UIPM Olympic Pentathlon World Ranking List, with ranking competitions taking place in Budapest (HUN), Drzonkow (POL), Madrid (ESP), Bishkek (KGZ) and Cairo (EGY).
Modern Pentathlon in the 19th Asian Games will take place from September 20-24 at Hangzhou.
There will be 72 athletes - 36 female and 36 male - at Paris 2024 in Modern Pentathlon.
