Tehran, Iran, January 12, 2023: Asian Games volleyball champion Adel Gholami has called time on his medal-filled playing career, the Tehran Times reports.
The 1.95-metre middle blocker was a member of Iran’s golden generation who won gold medals at the 2013 Asian Men’s Volleyball Championship in Dubai and the Incheon Asian Games in 2014.
Gholami, 36, also represented his country at the Rio Olympics in 2016 when Iran finished fifth.
“I want to thank everyone who has contributed to my success. I played volleyball for 20 years and enjoyed every moment of the sport. I wanted to continue playing but I was forced to end my career due to back injury,” he posted on his Instagram.
