Kuwait City, Kuwait, January 12, 2023: The Olympic Council of Asia has announced the dates of the OCA Athletes Forum to be held in Bangkok, Thailand in March.
The two-day forum will take place over the weekend of Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19, the OCA Director General, Husain Al Musallam, said in a circular to the President and Secretary General of member National Olympic Committees dated January 11.
“Part of the OCA and OCA Athletes Committee’s (AC) strategy and plan for 2023 is to focus on supporting Athletes Committees in Asia and try to work together hand in hand to help and assist athletes on and off the field of play, believing in their important role in building better societies, and focus on the role and responsibilities of Athletes Committees to reach our goals and objectives,” said Mr Al Musallam.
“With a view to supporting this outcome, OCA and OCA Athletes Committee are delighted to announce the upcoming OCA Athletes Forum in collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Athletes Commission and Department.
“This Forum will feature presentations and discussions from the OCA and IOC Athletes Committees and Departments and different topics that will be presented by experts and will be highlighted in the programme that will be shared with all NOCs in due course.”
National Olympic Committees will be able to register two participants (one female and one male is mandatory) from their own Athletes Committee, while NOCs in the process of establishing an Athletes Committee will also be able to register two athlete representatives (again, it is mandatory to register one female and one male). NOCs are asked to register their participants by February 8.
The hotel and venue for the forum is the Centara Grand At CentralWorld, Bangkok.
This will be the first OCA Athletes Forum since November 2018 in Tokyo and will come at the start of a busy OCA year for National Olympic Committees with the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8 and the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Bangkok and Chonburi province, Thailand from November 17-26.
