Tashkent, Uzbekistan, January 9, 2023: The Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Uzbekistan, Oybek Kasimov, met with the Japanese Ambassador in Tashkent, Takashi Hatori, last Friday, January 6.

During the meeting, which was held at the NOC Headquarters in Tashkent, both parties discussed views on the further development of friendly relations as well as the exchange of mutual experience on the sporting field.

NOC Secretary General Kasimov expressed his happiness that his first official meeting in 2023 was with the Japanese Ambassador, emphasising that Japan was one of the leading sporting nations not only in Asia but also in the world.

“Strengthening cooperation with Japan will only serve to benefit the development of sports in Uzbekistan,” Kasimov said. He also noted that, before the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, Uzbekistan had implemented a memorandum of cooperation between the NOC and the City of Maizuru in Kyoto Prefecture.

In turn, Ambassador Hatori praised the state of sport in Uzbekistan, and appreciated the results achieved by the country at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

Uzbekistan won three gold and two bronze medals. The gold medals came in boxing, weightlifting and taekwondo.

Talks also centred on the future cooperation between the national teams of both countries in the build-up to the 2025 Asian Youth Games in Tashkent and the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya.
