Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, January 5, 2023: The Olympic Council of Malaysia welcomed the Olympic figure skater Julian Yee Zhi Jie to its office on Wednesday, January 4.
The 25-year-old Canada-based athlete became the first Malaysian figure skater to qualify on merit for the Olympic Winter Games – at PyeongChang 2018. This achievement also marked Malaysia’s debut in the Winter Olympics.
He was ranked 25th in the men’s singles at PyeongChang with a score of 73.58 and narrowly missed out on the free skate as only the top 24 skaters advanced.
Julian was given the honour as the flagbearer of the Malaysian contingent for the opening and closing ceremonies.
Julian was also a member of the Malaysian contingent to the following continental and regional multi-sport games under the jurisdiction of OCM:
*8th Asian Winter Games Sapporo 2017 - Ranked 8th
*29th SEA Games Kuala Lumpur 2017 - Gold
*30th SEA Games Philippines 2019 – Gold
Julian was invited to pen his autograph on the Wall of Fame of the Olympic Winter Games section in the office of the Olympic Council of Malaysia.
