Lahore, Pakistan, December 28, 2022: The Pakistan Olympic Association, under the auspices of the Olympic Council of Asia, held a seminar on Empowering Athletes at Lahore College for Women University on December 26-27.
Dr. Bushra Mirza, Vice Chancellor of Lahore College for Women University, inaugurated the seminar and said the college was delighted to host national heroes and athletes at this educative event.
LCWU has been at the forefront of promoting women’s sports in Pakistan.
Dr. Mirza thanked Lt. Gen. (retd.) Syed Arif Hasan, President, Pakistan Olympic Association, and Mr. Muhammad Inam, Chairman, Athletes Commission of POA, for collaborating with the LCWU for this key event.
She assured athletes of her and LCWU’s full support in their future education and sporting endeavours.
POA President Syed Hasan, who was present at the opening ceremony, recalled the POA had organised five seminars aimed at athletes’ education over the past two years. He said it was the prime responsibility of sports organisations to educate their athletes, enabling them to take over future roles of leadership in the Olympic Movement.
Mr. Inam said athletes were being given valuable and key education that would benefit them in achieving their sporting and educational goals.
Topics covered during the two-day seminar included mental health matters, doping control, career pathways and career transition in sports.
Mr. Tayyab Ikram, President, International Hockey Federation, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony on Tuesday, December 27.
