Palestine swimming celebrates national record for Marina Abu Shamaleh

Melbourne, Australia, December 19, 2022: The Palestinian delegation at the 16th FINA World Swimming Championships (25m) are coming home from Melbourne, Australia with a new national hero, the Palestine Olympic Committee reports.

Marina Abu Shamaleh, 17, set a new national record in the women’s 50m breaststroke with a time of 33.49 seconds on December 17. She was fourth in her heat and placed 42nd overall.

Marina also clocked a personal best in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1 minute, 13.92 seconds three days earlier.

Thus, the Swimming Federation concludes its international participation this year with a large number of new records in the name of Palestine in the International Swimming Federation records.

The Palestine team also comprised of Mahmoud Abu Gharbieh (freestyle) and Yazan Al Bawwab (backstroke).
