Thimphu, Bhutan, December 14, 2022: The Secretary General of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, Sonam Karma Tshering, has presented a “Lifetime Service Award” to Grand Master Yonten Tharchen, General Secretary of the Bhutan Taekwondo Federation.
The award was for his dedicated service to the Tsa Wa Sum - the Bhutanese concept of serving the larger interest of the nation and the people - and the Royal Government of Bhutan.
Grandmaster Yonten Tharchen is one of the most senior civil servants working in the sports sector and has been serving as General Secretary of the Bhutan Taekwondo Federation for almost four decades.
Under his leadership, he has brought about tremendous progress, not only in taekwondo but in sports in general.
The taekwondo federation has also received numerous international honours and accolades under his leadership.
“The Bhutan Olympic Committee is for ever grateful for Grand Master Yonten Tharchen’s contribution towards developing sports in the country,” the BOC said.
