Hong Kong, China, December 14, 2022: The Sports Federation and Olympic Committee (SF&OC) of Hong Kong, China has announced that nominations are open for the Cathay 2022 Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards.
The National Sports Associations affiliated to the Olympic governing body can nominate their candidates in various categories from December 12 to January 11, 2023.
Public voting will take place from February 11 to March 12, 2023, and the awards presentation gala will be held on April 18 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The award categories are:
*Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Men
*Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Women
*Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event
*Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport
The SF&OC held a press conference at Olympic House on Monday, December 12 to promote the awards.
Five athletes will be awarded in the men’s and women’s categories, with the athlete earning the most votes named Best of the Best in each category.
There will be three winning teams in the Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards for Team Event, whilst one winner will be selected for the Hong Kong Sports Stars Award for Team Only Sport.
Each National Sports Association can nominate one athlete/team for the four award categories.
SF&OC Honorary Secretary General Ronnie Wong said: “We are delighted to continue our cooperation with title sponsor Cathay.
“The Hong Kong Sports Stars Awards ensures the public's attention and support for the Hong Kong athletes.
“With the recent efforts of all parties and the support of the Government, many international competitions have resumed in Hong Kong. We look forward to staging more international sporting events in Hong Kong in the future so as to re-establish Hong Kong's good reputation as an 'events capital', and to resume normalcy in Hong Kong in an orderly manner through sporting activities.
“We believe Hong Kong athletes will continue to show their perseverance and equip themselves, and be prepared for the Hangzhou Asian Games next year."
Four athletes also attended the press conference: Cecilia Yeung Man Wai (athletics), Cheung Ka Wai (billiards), Yu Sai Yin (cheerleading) and Wong Chun Ting (table tennis).
