Dushanbe, Tajikistan, January 15, 2020: The National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan has held a three-day training seminar in its battle against doping.
The January 8-10 seminar was held under the umbrella of the Sports Medicine and Protection Programme of the Athletes of Olympic Solidarity and at the Tajikistan NOC headquarters.
Erkin Lapitov, general director of the Tajikistan NOC who oversees the programme, revealed the anti-doping scheme implemented in Dushanbe in 2019 had reached more than 1,500 people.
By the end of its three-stage plan it is estimated that the programme will have reached out to more than 5,000 teenagers and young athletes countrywide.
“This year we set a goal to bring all cities and districts of the country under the programme in three phases,” Lapitov said.
“In the first round, eight field experts from the National Olympic Committee and the Youth and Sports Committee discussed various doping topics for three days. Now, in the second round, they will provide training for 89 specialists and trainers of sports educational institutions of Khatlon and Sugud regions, districts and cities.
“Then, in the third round, more than 5,000 teenagers and young athletes from 56 cities and districts will be introduced to the doping issues and the dire consequences of their use,” Lapitov added.
A Doping Information Guide will also be published and sent to all schools.
According to the Tajikistan NOC, the purpose of this scheme is to protect the country’s sporting dignity.
