Bhutan Olympic Committee inaugurates pilot boxing project targeting school children

Thimphu, Bhutan, November 30, 2022: The Bhutan Olympic Committee and the Chundu Armed Forces Public School jointly inaugurated the newly-built training hall at the Chundu School Boxing Academy on Wednesday, November 30.

This pilot project, initiated in the 2022 academic season, was conceived by HRH Prince Jigyel Ugyen Wangchuck, President of the Bhutan Olympic Committee, with the vision to introduce boxing in schools and provide young girls and boys with the opportunity to participate, develop and excel in the sport.

At present there are 11 girls and 11 boys enrolled in the Boxing Talent Development Programme at the Academy. This number is expected to grow in the near future.

This pilot project is a culmination of cooperation between the Royal Bhutan Army, the Bhutan Olympic Committee and the Bhutan Boxing Federation.
