Passing on the Olympic spirit in Hong Kong schools

Hong Kong, China, November 29, 2022: The Youth Olympian Programme - co-organised by Sports Legacy and Hong Kong Olympic Fans Club under the Sports Federation & Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China (SF&OC) - was officially launched on Monday, November 28.

The first term of the programme runs from 2022 to 2024. The programme aims at cultivating students' interest in sports, promoting a healthy lifestyle and the Olympic values of Excellence, Friendship and Respect.

Students from 10 beneficiary schools will be coached by current or retired Hong Kong athletes on various sports and fitness skills. They will also learn about the Olympic values through interactive games.

Echoing the Government's policy of promoting urban sports, the programme provides students with a variety of urban sport classes such as skateboarding, sport climbing and breaking, in addition to fencing, cycling and table tennis.

The programme will also roll out a series of sport-related activities including "Little Ambassadors", "Athletes Meet and Greet" and "Fun Day".

The kick-off ceremony was held at one of the beneficiary schools, Yuen Long Public Middle School (YLPMS) Alumni Association Tang Ying Yip Primary School.

Dr. Herman Hu, Vice President of SF&OC and Chairman of the Hong Kong Athletes Career & Education Programme Committee, said: "We appreciate the generous support by Sotheby's, HomeArt and friends from the sport and art sectors. We are also grateful for the efforts made by all participating schools and athletes.

“Their support is essential for Sports Legacy to continue to promote sports and Olympic values among primary school students."
