Muscat, Oman, November 29, 2022: The Oman Fencing Committee for the first time was represented by two women at the Annual General Congress of the International Fencing Federation (FIE) 2022 in Lausanne, Switzerland.
The delegation from Oman was comprised of Sameera Al Shukaili, Secretary General of Oman Fencing Committee, and Rumaitha Al Busaidy, a board member of OFC.

The FIE also voted for Saudi Arabia to host the 2024 Fencing Youth World Championships.
The Oman Fencing Committee was established in January 2019 and became a member of FIE in November that same year. It is also a member of the Arab and Asian governing bodies.
The national team has impressed in recent times with Omani fencers clinching 19 medals, including nine gold medals at the West Asian Fencing Championship in Jordan.
Following this performance, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth recently announced it would support two young fencers – Israa Al Syiabi and Harith Al Harthy – in programmes aimed at competing in the international arena.
