Kuwait City, Kuwait, November 28, 2022: The Olympic Council of Asia has announced the winner of the first Asian Games Youth Reporter Project in a new series: Shaikhah Al Tamimi of Kuwait.

Shaikhah’s news article from the youth reporter project held at the Kuwait Olympic Committee HQ on November 24 was judged to be the top entry, and she was awarded with her prizes during the Asian Games Fun Run on Monday morning.

The main prize is an invitation to attend the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8, 2023 as a guest of the OCA to join the news reporting team.

“I love it,” said Shaikhah, 28. “I am very excited to be invited to the Asian Games with the OCA. It is an amazing opportunity to broaden my horizon and immerse myself in different cultures.

“It will also be interesting to see athletes who have dedicated their lives to their sport.”

Shaikhah is an English literature major, media and communications minor, and graduated from the American University of Kuwait in 2017.

She has been working in the Ministry of Information since 2018, mainly as a translator in the English news and programs sector.

The OCA conducted the first Asian Games Youth Reporter Project for Hangzhou at the Kuwait Olympic Committee HQ last Thursday.

The project offered a workshop on the typical daily tasks of a sports journalist at a major event such as the Asian Games, followed by a press conference exercise with Kuwait’s Olympic swimmer Abbas Qali.

The students used the workshop information and press conference comments to write their own news article, which were judged on accuracy, story construction and flow, and news value.

The Asian Games Youth Reporter Project is one of three components of the OCA’s “Asian Games for All” campaign, along with the Asian Games Fun Run and Asian Games Children’s Art Competition.
