Hangzhou, China, November 27, 2022: The Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia, Husain Al Musallam, has invited sports fans around the world to become an Asian Games digital torchbearer.
In a video message on the 300-day countdown to the 19th Asian Games, Mr Al Musallam described the digital torchbearer initiative as a “pioneering” moment in the history of the Asian Games.
“Today marks the 300-day countdown to the Hangzhou Asian Games,” he said in his video message on Sunday, November 27.
“On behalf of the Olympic Council of Asia I would like to express my sincere thanks and pay tribute to everyone who has contributed to our Games preparation.
“I was delighted to hear that today Hangzhou will launch the Asian Games digital avatar platform - a pioneering effort - and unveil the Asian Games in Hangzhou digital torchbearer.
“This is the first ever online torchbearer in the history of the Asian Games – a remarkable achievement for Hangzhou in its efforts to host a ‘smart’ Asian Games.
“Now it gives me great pleasure to invite people around the world to take part in the Asian Games digital torchbearer activity and blaze across Asia all the way to the Games.”
The new dates for the 19th Asian Games are September 23 to October 8, 2023.

*The Hangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee announced at a press conference that it is looking to recruit 30,000 new volunteers after many volunteers who had signed up for the Games in September 2022 dropped out due to the one-year postponement.
People who are experienced in serving large-scale games and are fluent in Korean, Arabic or other Asian languages and specialised in competition are preferred. Applicants shall meet certain requirements for physical and metal conditions and be able to communicate in English.
From November 23 to December 31, qualified applicants can sign up via the Games' official website, WeChat account or the "Smart Hangzhou 2022" mini-program on Alipay.
