Olympic fencer Bhavani Devi ‘elated’ to join IOA Athletes Commission

New Delhi, India, November 21, 2022: Olympic fencer CA Bhavani Devi says she is “honoured and elated” to have been selected as a member of the Indian Olympic Association’s Athletes Commission.

The 10 members of the newly-elected IOA Athletes Commission also include two of India’s greatest athletes in badminton star PV Sindhu and boxing legend Mary Kom.

“I feel honoured and elated to be selected as one of the members of the Athletes Commission for the Indian Olympic Association. I express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone for supporting me in the selection,” said Bhavani Devi, who represented India in fencing at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

“I shall strive my best to work for the progress of the athletes and inspire people to foster a mindset that sports can reshape the foundation of human society,” she added, in a Facebook post from November 20.

The other members of the IOA Athletes Commission are Gagan Narang (shooting), Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (weightlifting), Om Prakash (athletics), Shiva Keshavan (luge), Bajrang Lal (rowing), Achanta Sharath Kamal (table tennis) and Rani Rampal (hockey).
