Doha, Qatar, November 15, 2022: The International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) has announced that Doha, Qatar will host the 85th FIG Congress in October, 2024.
The decision to assign the next meeting of the world governing body to the Gymnastics Federation of Qatar was taken at the 84th FIG Congress held on November 11-12 in Istanbul, Turkey. Delegates representing 118 national federations took part.
“Doha has been awarded the honour of hosting the global gymnastics family for the 85th International Gymnastics Federation Congress in 2024,” the Qatar Olympic Committee posted on its website page. The Congress will be held from October 24-26, 2024.
Also at the Istanbul meeting, two Asian countries were accepted as new members of FIG – Tajikistan and Lao. FIG now counts a total of 162 member federations – 160 affiliated members and two associate members.
Meanwhile, Japan’s Hiroyuki Tomita was made a Honorary member of FIG.
