Pattaya, Thailand, November 15, 2022: The Olympic Council of Asia believes the organising committee of the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games (AIMAG) in Thailand in November 2023 has found a winning formula in Pattaya.

On the second day of the first OCA Coordination Committee meeting for the 6th AIMAG on Tuesday, the OCA delegation visited the vast Ambassador City Jomtien on the beach front of Pattaya in the heart of the coastal province of Chonburi.

Ambassador City will provide the official accommodation for athletes competing in the sports programme of Chonburi, which will co-host the 6th AIMAG with Bangkok from November 17-26, 2023.

Ambassador City boasts almost 2,000 rooms and will accommodate between 3,500 and 4,000 athletes and officials during the AIMAG. Furthermore, the complex will also host several sports, such as billiard/cue sports, chess, kurash and indoor rowing.

With the amount of rooms, professional services and indoor venues on hand, Ambassador City is like an Asian Games Village. Organisers are also planning to establish the Main Media Centre, comprised of the Main Press Centre and International Broadcasting Centre, within the Ambassador City complex.

“It is a very wise choice by the organising committee to have the AIMAG at Ambassador City,” said the OCA’s Asian Games Director, Haider Farman.

“It’s a great opportunity to have such a facility in Pattaya. We were not expecting to have this number of capacity and facilities needed in the same place, regarding venues and accommodation.”

Mr Farman added that Ambassador City also fulfilled the OCA concept of sustainability by having several sports in the same venue and thereby reducing the transportation costs and official vehicles required.

“It will eliminate a lot of services like transportation which will support the sustainability concept of the games and serve the concept of green games,” he said.

“It is really encouraging for the OCA and the organising committee to have more sports in the same place.”

Organisers estimate that all competition venues in Chonburi province will be within 10km of Ambassador City.

The OCA visit followed a meeting at the Movenpick Siam Hotel in Pattaya attended by the Governor of Chonburi province, Thawatchai Srithong, who assured the OCA of his personal supervision of the security and traffic committee in particular.
