Sri Lanka NOC Medical Committee holds awareness programme for national federations

Colombo, Sri Lanka, November 14, 2022: The Medical Committee of the National Olympic Committee of Sri Lanka held an awareness programme for National Sports Federations in the capital Colombo.

The programme was conducted under the auspices of the Chair of the NOC Medical Committee, Dr. Eshan Jayaweera, and provided a good opportunity to introduce the current crop of doctors who are serving on the Medical Committee.

The President of Sri Lanka NOC, Suresh Subramaniam, and Secretary General Maxwell de Silva attended the one-day seminar.

The core objective of the seminar was to highlight the relationship between science and sports and on the key goal of how to reduce injuries in sports in the bid to win medals. The Medical Committee also outlined its future plans to all the participating federations.

Along with Dr. Eshan Jayaweera, the following doctors are on the panel and providing their services to the NOC: Professor Aranjan Karunanayake, Dr. Chaturanga Ranasinghe, Dr. Asela Ratnayake, Dr. Fariz Ahmed, Dr. Kithsiri Perera, Dr. Upul Madahapola, Dr. Rangana Hettige, Dr. Susantha Peiris, and Dr. Himan de Silva.

Dr. Chaturanga Ranasinghe, who is also the Director of the Sport Exercise Medicine Unit of the University of Colombo, was awarded the Sheikh Fahad Hiroshima-Asia Sports Medicine and Science Award at the OCA General Assembly in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on October 4.
