Jordan NOC welcomes home gymnastics silver medallist Ahmad Abu Al Soud

Amman, Jordan, November 8, 2022: The Jordan Olympic Committee provided a warm welcome home for their gymnastics hero Ahmad Abu Al Soud.

Al Soud, who won the silver medal on men’s pommel horse at the 51st FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Liverpool, England, on Saturday, November 5, arrived home on Tuesday with the Jordan delegation.

The Secretary General of Jordan Olympic Committee, Nasser Al-Majali, was at the reception of the national team delegation alongside members of the Jordan Gymnastics Federation Board.

Al Soud entered the history of gymnastics on the Arab level. He became the first Arab gymnast to achieve a medal in the Gymnastics World Championship which was held for the first time in 1978, according to the JOC.

Al-Majali congratulated Al Soud on his historic achievement, expressing the pride of the Jordanian sports family with this special medal and praising the player's constant efforts and his keenness to always represent Jordan in the best way.

Al Soud expressed his pride in winning the silver medal and what it meant for his country. He has now set his sights on the Olympic Games Paris 2024.

Rhys McClenaghan (IRL) won gold with 15.300. Ahmad Abu Al Soud (JOR) finished second with 14.866 and Harutyun Merdinyan (ARM) won the bronze medal with 14.733.

According to the FIG athlete profile, Al Soud, 27, began gymnastics at four years old.
