First VP of Uzbekistan NOC Ravshan Irmatov confident OCA course will arm coaches and referees with power

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, November 7, 2022: A senior official of the Uzbekistan National Olympic Committee believes the OCA Stage 2 Development Programme for coaches and referees in Tashkent would arm participants with the technical knowhow and knowledge to remain competitive in an ever-changing world.

First Vice President of the Uzbekistan NOC, Ravshan Irmatov, speaking at the handing over of Olympic Council of Asia certificates for participants in boxing, wrestling and swimming on Monday, November 7 – the two other sports, judo and weightlifting had received their certificates on Sunday – stressed the importance of keeping up with the times.

“The world is moving fast day by day. In sports there are new rules, new technologies, new techniques, and it is important that all of you keep up. I believe these last five days in Tashkent will have benefited you immensely,” Irmatov, who is also the Vice President of the Uzbekistan Football Federation, noted.

“Coaches and referees play an important role in sports. As such it is essential that you be up-to-date with what’s happening in your sport. I’m certain that all the knowledge you have received over the past few days will hold you in good stead in the future,” Irmatov, a former football referee added.

Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister, Ministry of Sports, Sherzod Tashmatov, who also addressed the coaches and referees, said: “We are grateful for the Olympic Council of Asia for choosing Tashkent as the venue for this important development programme. We thank you for that. Congratulations to all participants who took part.”

A total of 227 coaches and referees from 12 NOCs in Central and South Asia participated in phase two of this ground-breaking move initiated by the OCA this year.

“Coaches and referees working like this together will make each understand the other better. I hope after this seminar, there is better understanding and not fighting between the two parties,” Irmatov joked, bringing a roar of approval from the officials.
