Jordan NOC President Prince Faisal calls for gender equity in leaders of Asian teams at Paris 2024 Olympics

Manama, Bahrain, October 30, 2022: Asian National Olympic Committees have been asked to split their country’s team leadership at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games between a man and a woman.

HRH Prince Faisal bin Al Hussain, IOC and OCA Executive Board Members, made the recommendation that there be gender equity in appointing the Chef de Mission and Deputy Chef de Mission at the next Olympic showpiece.

“Looking at leadership of national teams at the Paris 2024 Olympics, I recommend that if the Chef de Mission is a man, then the Deputy Chef de Mission be a woman,” Prince Faisal pointed out on the opening day of the OCA Gender Equity Seminar.

“If NOC’s need to train women to take over this responsibility, then they should use the next few big multi-sports events in Asia, including the Asian Games in China next year, as opportunities.

“I don’t want to go to Paris in 2024 for the Olympics and see Asian NOCs have men in both Chef de Mission and Deputy Chef de Mission positions,” warned Prince Faisal, who is also the President of the Jordan Olympic Committee.
