Saudi Games 2022 opens in Riyadh

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, October 28, 2022: Under the patronage of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and on behalf of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz, Governor of Riyadh region, attended the opening ceremony of the Saudi Games 2022 at the King Fahd International Stadium on Friday, October 28, the Saudi Press Agency reports.

The inaugural Saudi Games is the biggest national sporting event in the history of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, with the participation of more than 6,000 athletes and 2,000 technical and administrative supervisors from 200 clubs across the Kingdom.

Upon arrival at the venue, Prince Faisal bin Bandar bin Abdulaziz was received by Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, Minister of Sports and President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, who is also the Chairman of the Supreme Organising Committee of Saudi Games 2022.

The first Saudi Games, which is part of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, will run through to November 7 at 20 venues across the capital region. There will be 45 sports, including five Paralympic disciplines.

The Saudi Games aim at upgrading all aspects of the sports sector. These include the identification of a new generation of elite athletes, developing administrative staff and advancing sports infrastructure in preparation for hosting world-class sports events.
