Olympic weightlifting hero joins Kyrgyzstan NOC educational project

Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, October 25, 2022: The National Olympic Committee of Kyrgyzstan is celebrating its 30th anniversary with educational lectures from two prominent sports personalities.

Kanybek Osmonaliev from Kyrgyzstan won weightlifting gold at flyweight (52kg) representing the Soviet Union at Moscow 1980 and was a four-time world champion.

Kabyl Makeshov has documented the Olympics in great detail, covering 12 Olympic Games and producing 16 books.

The NOC initiative in Olympic education is running from October 22-26 with the support of the International Olympic Committee and will visit university students and youth in various regions. 

These activities are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the formation of the National Olympic Committee and are aimed at promoting Olympic ideals and knowledge, and engaging young people in sports. 

The meetings will feature lectures on topics such as the Ancient Olympic Games, the Olympic Games of the modern era, history of the Asian Games and Kyrgyzstan Olympians. The lectures are accompanied by historical photographs and books. All sports professionals, fans and youth can attend the meetings.
