Hangzhou 2022 officials visit OCA HQ on mascot mission

Kuwait City, Kuwait, January 12, 2020: A delegation from the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games Organising Committee (HAGOC) paid a visit to Kuwait – home of the Olympic Council of Asia – from January 8-12.

The delegation from Hangzhou comprised Madam Zhou Shu, Director of the Press and Public Relations Department; Mr Xu Xiaochuan, Division Chief of the Press and Public Relations Department; Mr Hu Guodong, staff of the Legal Department; and Ms Zheng Kaiyuan, staff of the International Relations Department.

The main purpose of the visit was to submit for approval the mascots scheme for the 19th Asian Games, which will take place in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province in eastern China, from September 10-25, 2022.

The Director General of the OCA, Mr Husain Al Musallam, was very impressed with the creativity involved in the concept and design.

“It is excellent work and follows the overall direction of the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou 2022. The OCA appreciates all the dedication and hard work that has gone into this process and we look forward to the official launch in the near future.

“With the emblem and slogan already announced, the mascot launch will be another major milestone on the road to the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou in 2022,” he said.

Madam Zhou Shu added: “The entire process of the mascot design has received strong support and guidance from the OCA and we are very grateful to work in this environment of cooperation and unity.

“HAGOC received a total of 4,633 sets of mascot designs from home and from international contributors and this shows the interest and excitement in the 19th Asian Games. HAGOC also undertook several rounds of modifications over a period of three months.

“HAGOC also completed the process of duplication checking and copyright registration.”

Other matters discussed during the visit of the Hangzhou 2022 officials were the Asian Games Fun Run and broadcasting.

The OCA and the organising committee of the Asian Games hold a Fun Run series among the 45 member National Olympic Committees, not only to promote the Asian Games in each country or region but also to encourage a healthy lifestyle with youngsters and families joining in the festivities.

The HAGOC delegation met with the Chinese Ambassador to Kuwait, H.E. Mr. Li Ming Gang, during their visit.
