Dubai, United Arab Emirates, October 16, 2022: Dubai has been selected as the host city of the 38th edition of the World Congress of Sports Medicine in 2024.
Delegates at the International Conference of Sports Medicine in Jalisco, Mexico last month – 117 sports medicine committees from all over the world – chose Dubai as the city to host the next edition in 2024.
Among the UAE representatives at this conference was Dr. Abdullah Al-Rahoumi, Deputy Chairman of the Sports Medicine Committee at the UAE National Olympic Committee.
The decision was hailed by UAE sports officials. HE Dr Ahmed Belhoul Al Falasi, First Vice President and Chief Executive of the UAE NOC, said the decision to give Dubai hosting rights confirms UAE’s position as the best venue to stage and organise major sports events and scientific conferences.
He praised the directives of HH Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, President of the UAE NOC, on the need to build partnerships with various international organisations so as to achieve the desired benefit for UAE sports and contribute to the transfer of knowledge from specialists in sports sciences.
One of the main topics at the World Congress of Sports Medicine is the health and safety of athletes, with a review of best practices followed and the latest techniques used in this regard.
HE Helal Saeed Al Marri, Director General of the Department of Economy and Tourism in Dubai, said: “Dubai’s win to host the International Conference on Sports Medicine in 2024 is the result of constructive cooperation with our partners in the public and private sectors, especially with the Sports Medicine Committee of the National Olympic Committee. Dubai has a track record of hosting major international events, which is in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and ruler of Dubai.”
