Doha, Qatar, October 16, 2022: Qatar's Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games weightlifting champion Fares Ibrahim claimed two gold medals and one silver in the men's 102kg category at the 2022 Asian Weightlifting Championships in Manama, Bahrain on Saturday, the Qatar Olympic Committee reports.
Ibrahim won gold in the clean and jerk with 215kg and in the total lift with 386kg. His lift of 171kg in the snatch was second best for the silver medal in this section of the competition.
Ibrahim won the Olympic gold at 96kg in Tokyo last summer.
The Asian championships bring together around 30 countries and regions including Qatar, Bangladesh, Brunei, China, India, Iran, Indonesia, Iraq, Jordan, Japan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, South Korea, Laos, Lebanon, Mongolia, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Singapore, Tajikistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Turkmenistan, UAE, Uzbekistan, Vietnam, Yemen and Bahrain.
