ANOC sets the scene for major events in Seoul and Bali

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, October 4, 2022: The Secretary General of the Association of National Olympic Committees, Gunilla Lindberg, provided details of two major upcoming ANOC events in Asia during her presentation at the 41st OCA General Assembly on Tuesday.

The Swedish sports administrator said ANOC was expecting 950 delegates to attend the ANOC General Assembly in Seoul from October 19-21, 2022 with only six NOCs participating online and 200 in person.

She also looked ahead to the second ANOC World Beach Games which will be held in Bali, Indonesia from August 5-12, 2023, followed by the ANOC General Assembly.  “It’s a fantastic set-up and a perfect place for beach games,” she said.

So far, 38 NOCs have qualified to take part in the 14 sports on the programme of the second ANOC WBG. It is hoped that more than 100 NOCs will eventually be able to join the event. The Chefs de Mission Seminar will take place in April 2023.

Looking back on the inaugural ANOC World Beach Games in Doha in 2019, Lindberg said the feedback from participants had been very positive. The International Federations running the sports gave the event an average mark of 8.92 out of 10, while the NOCs scored it 8.65.

The ANOC strategic plan for 2021-24 was also discussed following replies to a survey from 169 NOCs, as was the ANOC photo project for NOCs at the Beijing Winter Olympics in which 28 NOCs and five continental associations benefited from the free service from two ANOC photographers who provided 3,600 photos.

The ANOC Secretary General congratulated both Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022 for hosting successful Olympic and Winter Olympic Games in such challenging circumstances.
