NOC Cambodia President’s ‘greatest honour’ to receive OCA Merit Award

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, October 4, 2022: The President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, Dr Thong Khon, says that receiving the OCA Merit Award is the “greatest honour” in the Olympic sports movement.

Dr Thong, who is also Cambodia’s Minister of Tourism, received the award at the 41st OCA General Assembly at the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh on Tuesday, October 4.

“On behalf of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia and myself, I would like to once again express my profound thanks and sincere gratitude to the Olympic Council of Asia for granting the NOC of Cambodia to host this 41st OCA General Assembly,” he said.

“Receiving the OCA Merit Award from the Olympic Council of Asia is the greatest honour for the athletes, coaches, national federations, Sports Authority of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and, especially, the Royal Government of Cambodia under the wise and brilliant leadership of Samdech Akka Moha Sena Padei Techo Hun Sen, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia.

“This OCA Merit Medal has inspired me and the whole Cambodian Olympic family to make more effort to achieve the goal of building a better world through the Olympic Movement. In particular, it will strongly motivate the NOC of Cambodia and the Kingdom of Cambodia for our preparations to assure the successful hosting of the 2023 SEA Games and ASEAN Para Games and the 5th Asian Youth Games 2029.”

Dr Thong thanked Prime Minister Hun Sen for presiding over the opening ceremony of the General Assembly and the Asian Olympic movement for trusting and supporting the host country.
