Two senior members of Asian Olympic family receive OCA Merit Award

Phnom Penh, Cambodia, October 4, 2022: Two senior and long-standing members of the Asian sporting family were recognised for their invaluable services, becoming the recipients of the Olympic Council of Asia Merit Award on Tuesday, October 4.

President of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, H.E. Dr. Thong Khon, and the Secretary General of the Vietnam Olympic Committee, Mr. Tran Van Manh, was awarded the OCA Merit Award.

The trio received their Merit Awards from OCA Acting President Raja Randhir Singh and OCA Director General Husain Al-Musallam at the 41st OCA General Assembly held at Sokha Hotel, Phnom Penh.

Apart from heading the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia, Dr. Thong Khon is also the country’s Minister of Tourism, and Chairman of the Southeast Asian Games Federation Council. He is also President of the Cambodian Gymnastic Federation.

Mr. Tran is President of the Vietnam Hockey Federation and Secretary General Southeast Asian Games Sports Federation. He is also Secretary General, Danang Asian Beach Games Organising Committee.

In addition, two doctors were bestowed with the 7th Sheikh Fahad Hiroshima-Asia Sports Medicine and Science Award – Sri Lanka’s Dr. Chathuranga Ranasinghe and Singaporean Dr. Marcus Lee.

“I’m really honoured to be given this esteemed award, and it makes me even more proud being the first Sri Lanka to achieve this tribute,” said Dr. Chathuranga after he was presented his award.
