Bali, Indonesia, September 29, 2022: Asian rowing expert Chris Perry says athletes can look forward to “wonderful sea and sand conditions” at the 2nd ANOC World Beach Games in Bali next August.
Perry, who is World Rowing’s Development Lead Expert for Asia, has been appointed Technical Delegate of Beach Sprint Rowing for the Association of National Olympic Committees’ showpiece event in 2023.
The former long-serving head coach of the Hong Kong, China rowing programme commented: “Spent a fascinating few days in Bali as World Rowing Technical Delegate for the ANOC World Beach Games, which will be held from 5-17 May 2023.
“Over 1,500 of the world's best athletes, from 100 countries and regions, are expected to participate in 14 beach and water sports.
“Rowing Beach Sprints will be included for the first time at the Games with the races taking place in the beautiful Jimbaran Bay. Participants can expect wonderful sea and sand conditions and warm hospitality in one of the world's friendliest places.”
Perry added that it was also a memorable visit for catching up with old friends.
“In addition to taking part in technical meetings and site inspections, a visit to the Garuda Visnu Kencana statue was arranged. The surrounding park will host the Opening Ceremonies,” he added.
“It was also nice to catch up with Hong Kong, China NOC President Mr. Timothy Fok - who is Chair of the ANOC Events Commission. Also, five-time boardsailing Olympian Barbara Kendall (NZL), who I first met at the Atlanta Olympic Games when she took the silver medal behind Hong Kong's Lee Lai Shan.”
Among his many duties for Asian and world rowing, Perry also served as head coach for the Olympic Council of Asia rowing youth camp in Pattaya, Thailand.
