Male, Maldives, September 27, 2022: The Bank of Maldives in collaboration with the Maldives Olympic Committee will provide three scholarships for national athletes to train and develop at recognised high-performance centres across the world.
The initiative is part of the Bank of Maldives’ series of 12 high-impact monthly community projects to celebrate its upcoming 40th anniversary.
On Monday, September 26, the Bank announced its Sports Scholarship which is aimed at supporting athletes achieve their sporting potential through targeted programmes.
The three scholarships are to be managed in association with the Maldives Olympic Committee and will be open to all registered national sports associations.
Bank of Maldives acting Managing Director Aishath Noordeen said the Bank was committed to playing an important role in developing sporting talent in the country.
“BML remains committed to playing an important part in developing sporting talent in the country through youth development programmes and partnerships with national associations. Today, we are further delighted to announce our new Sports Scholarship to support top athletes to achieve greatness on the national and international stage,” she said.
The Bank’s other initiatives to celebrate its 40th anniversary include upgrading the National Library, upgrading the Maldives National Museum, the development of an oncology ward at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital, a Start-Up grant, and upgrading Home for people with special needs.
