Doha, Qatar, September 14, 2022: The Qatar Olympic Committee celebrated the International Day of Fair Play last week by planting a tree.
The QOC in cooperation with the Public Works Authority ‘Ashghal’, the Ministry of Municipality, and Expo 2023 celebrated the occasion in the presence of mountain climbing legend Sheikha Asma Al-Thani and members of the Qatar national fencing team.
Sheikha Asma, who is also the Director of QOC Marketing and Communication, speaking at the event said: “Sustainability is our top priority to build a generation committed to preserve the environment and by planting trees we aim at protecting the future of our athletes by promoting the ethics of fair play and sportsmanship.”
Mohamed Ali Al-Khouri, Secretary General of Expo 2023 and a Director at the Ministry of Municipality lauded all agricultural initiatives of the government and private companies, and confirmed that Expo 2023 organising committee was keen to support these initiatives and encouraged the community to plant trees at public parks.
Stars of the Qatar women basketball team, Danah Suleiman and Sarah Khamis, also participated in a training session for students at Doha English Speaking School, and underlined the importance of fair play values as athletes.
Team Qatar athletics star Abdulrahman Samba visited Doha Academy where he spoke on ethical values of sport and the athletes’ mental preparation for sports events.
