Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, September 9, 2022: The Commonwealth Games Association of Malaysia has paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who died on Thursday, September 8 aged 96.
In a Facebook post looking back on Her Majesty’s connections with the country, CGA Malaysia wrote: “It is with profound sorrow that the Commonwealth Games Association of Malaysia learned of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Patron of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF), on Thursday, 8th September 2022, at the age of 96.
“Her Majesty the Queen, the longest reigning British Monarch, had united the Commonwealth nations with her extraordinary dedication and services throughout her long life and reign.
“The CGA Malaysia had a long-cherished relationship with Her Majesty the Queen, especially during the Closing Ceremony of the XVI Commonwealth Games Kuala Lumpur 1998, which was held on Monday, 21st September 1998.”
Tan Sri Dato’ Sri (Dr.) Mohamad Norza Zakaria, President of CGA Malaysia, said: “On behalf of the CGA Malaysia, we would like to convey our deepest condolences to His Majesty King Charles III. Our thoughts and prayers are with His Majesty the King and the British Royal Family during this period of bereavement.”
