Hong Kong, China, September 2, 2022: The Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism, Kevin Yeung Yun Hung, led a government delegation to the headquarters of the Sports Federation and Olympic Committee of Hong Kong, China on September 1 to discuss the future direction of sports development in the Special Administrative Region.
He was accompanied by the Commissioner for Sports, Yeung Tak Keung, and by Alvin Chiu Man Leong, Political Assistant to the Secretary for Culture, Sports and Tourism.
They were welcomed by the President of the SF&OC, Timothy Fok, who is OCA Vice President for East Asia on the Executive Board, and by the board of officers.
During the meeting, Mr. Fok appreciated the establishment of the Culture, Sports and Tourism Bureau and congratulated the appointment of Mr. Yeung. He believed that the new Bureau could formulate and coordinate sports-related policies to better fit the need of the industry at a higher level, and benefit the continuous development of sport in Hong Kong.
Both parties exchanged views on a number of significant issues including the redevelopment of Olympic House and Hong Kong Stadium, the difficulties experienced by National Sports Associations (NSAs) in organising sports event during the pandemic, the preparation of the 15th National Games and the intention of Hong Kong to bid for multi-sport games and competitions at international level.
Mr. Yeung then toured Olympic House to understand about the work situation of the tenant NSAs. He also talked with the staff of several NSAs to collect their views on the redevelopment of Olympic House.
On behalf of the sports community, Mr. Fok expressed appreciation for the effort of the HKSAR Government in supporting the sports community. SF&OC will continue to communicate and work closely with the Government to promote Hong Kong as an international sports event city.
