Kuwait City, Kuwait, August 25, 2022: The OCA Sports and Environment Committee held a virtual meeting on August 25, 2022 with the presence of seven committee members and OCA secretariat staff.
The committee members shared the NOCs activities coping with Covid-19 and proposed actions to tackle environmental issues.
Pakistan NOC, in collaboration with its government, held successfully-managed sports events during the pandemic, allowing the least interaction among athletes and participants.
Iran NOC has almost resumed sports activities both indoors and outdoors. It also promotes environment campaigns in sport events together with NGOs and educational institutions.
Japan NOC proposed that the committee should support the IOC’s Climate Positive Commitment which included emission reduction and awareness-raising activities for stakeholders and Olympic fans.
The committee members proposed and agreed that an environment award presented by the committee (for example the Environment Award of OCA Sports and Environment Committee) could be a good motivation for the sport community. It includes NOCs, groups and individuals that align their practices in a sustainable and environment-friendly way. The committee will set up a task force team to further discuss the awarding system.
The Sports and Environment Committee will remain fully committed to promote green and carbon-neutral sports in Asia adapting to the new normal.
The Chair of the OCA Sports and Environment Committee, Mr Kyung-Sun Yu, welcomed the discussions and updates from members.
