Muscat, Oman, August 25, 2022: Hong Kong beat the United Arab Emirates by eight wickets to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 T20 tournament on Wednesday, August 24.
Hong Kong, led by skipper Nizakat Khan, chased down a target of 148 to secure a third successive win and remain unbeaten in the four-team qualifying tournament held at the Al Amerat Cricket Stadium in Muscat, Oman. The other two teams were Kuwait and Singapore.
The victory booked Hong Kong’s ticket to the UAE where they will feature alongside India and Pakistan in Group A in the Asia Cup 2022 showpiece. The other group comprises Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka. The tournament begins on Saturday, August 27.
Hong Kong’s first outing will be against India on August 31 in Dubai, followed by Pakistan in Sharjah on September 2.
Placed 23rd in the ICC T20I rankings, the 2022 edition will mark Hong Kong’s fourth appearance in the Asia Cup after 2004, 2008 and 2018, and the first in the T20 format.
