Hanoi, Vietnam, August 25, 2022: The Vietnam Olympic Committee organised a series of national training courses in swimming and drowning prevention in various localities throughout the country from June to August.
The courses were to implement the plan of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and were organised by the VOC in coordination with the different localities and international associations. The VOC received support from the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity funding arm and also from the Olympic Council of Asia.
The courses were held in Nam Dinh, Cao Bang and Dak Lak provinces and many other localities across the country, especially in areas near the sea, rivers, lakes and streams. Hundreds of swimming instructors, local sports officials and swimming coaches attended the classes.
The courses lasted from six to seven days and the main subjects were the Olympic Movement, Olympic values and the history of the development of the International Olympic Movement. In terms of technique, the classes focused on basic swimming skills and how to prevent drowning.
The classes were attended by IOC experts and lecturers from the swimming faculty of Bac Ninh Sports University. The participants were taught about the benefits and effects of swimming, such as improving health, physical strength and disease prevention among children, and of safety in the water.
The Vietnam Olympic Committee is committed to promoting a safe and healthy lifestyle to all sectors of the community including families and schools and society as a whole. This includes teaching people how to swim which will, in turn, reduce the drowning rate in the country.
