Team Saudi returns from Islamic Solidarity Games with rich haul of 24 medals

Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, August 22, 2022: Team Saudi has raised the bar after collecting 24 medals – two gold, 12 silver and 10 bronze – at the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey.

Saudi Arabia finished 15th in the overall medal standings at the August 9-18 Games. A total of 54 countries and 4,000 athletes participated in Konya.

At the closing ceremony on August 18, HH Prince Fahd bin Jalawi Abdulaziz bin Musaed, vice-president of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee and head of the Saudi delegation, congratulated all medal winners at the Islamic Solidarity Games.

Prince Fahd also extended his thanks and appreciation to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Minister of Youth and Sports Dr Muhammad Muharram Kasaboglu for the success of hosting an exceptional Games.

Weightlifting was the most successful sport for Team Saudi with 11 medals - a gold, six silver and four bronze.

Athletics came second with five medals – four silver and a bronze – while karate had three medals with a gold and two bronze.
