Punjab to build world-class athletics stadium to honour Pakistan javelin hero Arshad Nadeem

Lahore, Pakistan, August 18, 2022: Pakistan’s Olympian javelin ace Arshad Nadeem was given a hero’s welcome on Monday night, August 15, on arriving in Lahore, the Punjab capital, after his two recent gold medal-winning performances on the international stage.

Nadeem, who won back-to-back gold medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games 2022 and the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, returned to a warm welcome being greeted by family and senior government and sport officials at the Allama Iqbal International Airport.

On hand to receive him were the President of the Athletics Federation of Pakistan, Maj Gen (retd.) Akram Sahi, Punjab Sports Minister Malik Taimoor Masood, Director General Sports Board Punjab Tariq Qureshi and other dignitaries.

Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Sports Minister Taimoor Masood revealed that a world-class stadium equipped with all modern facilities would be constructed in Arshad Nadeem’s village in Mian Channu.

“Arshad Nadeem has made the entire nation proud with his exceptional gold-medal winning performances,” Taimoor Masood noted. “His feats will be a great inspiration for our young athletes and we will utilise all our resources for the promotion of athletics across the province.”

Arshad Nadeem thanked the Punjab Sports Minister and Sports Board Punjab for extending support to him. “I did most of my training at SBP’s top standard venues and this training played a key role in my successes at both Commonwealth Games and Islamic Solidarity Games.
