Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, August 17, 2022: Qatari coach Mohammed Shewaiter has displayed his commitment to the diving cause back home – by attending the OCA youth camp in Kuala Lumpur just three weeks after his wedding.

Mohammed, 31, was married on July 29 and spent one week on honeymoon with his new bride in Sri Lanka. He had been back in Qatar for only one week when he had to pack his bags again and head for Kuala Lumpur to represent Qatar in the OCA diving youth camp along with two divers.

“My wife was a little sad and said ‘why do you have to go to work and leave me?’,” Mohammed said on the sidelines of the third morning of the camp on Wednesday.

“I spoke to her and said this is my work. I have some players and I want my players to be champions. I have to see my boys.

“After this, my wife understands that I want our players to do better for my country, for the level of my players to go up.

“It is important for my players to learn and see and enjoy the camp and to learn from the coaches.”

Mohammed said that he left home with the blessings of his wife. “She said that, if you can achieve this, you will be a good coach. ‘I hope you will be a great coach in Qatar’, she told me.”

Qatar is represented by two divers at the OCA youth camp: Rashid Zaid Al-Qarah and Saad Salah Al-Hamad.

Mohammed was competing at this venue as recently as 2019 in a FINA Diving World Cup and has been coaching for only eight months.

But his desire to be with his team representing Qatar just three weeks after his wedding proves how determined he is to help his country advance in diving sport.
