UAE NOC pledges support for Saudi push to host 2029 Asian Winter Games

Konya, Turkey, August 11, 2022: The United Arab Emirates National Olympic Committee has pledged its full  support to the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee’s request to host the ninth Asian Winter Games in Trojena, Neom in 2029.

In a meeting on the sidelines of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya, Turkey, HE Dr Ahmad Belhoul Al Falasi, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates NOC, met with HRH Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, President of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, where a firm commitment was made to back the Saudi request for the Asian Winter Games.

Both senior officials reviewed ways to strengthen bilateral sporting relations between the two countries. The UAE NOC Vice President then pledged the Emirates’ full support to Saudi Arabia’s wish to host the winter showpiece, especially as it would boost the development of winter sports in West Asia and the Middle East.

The Olympic Council of Asia will decide at its General Assembly in Phnom Penh, Cambodia on October 4 as to which country will host the ninth Asian Winter Games.
